As you may know, the NHS is once again running the ‘Stoptober’ Campaign, to encourage as many of us as possible to give up smoking for good. Smoking is one of the major causes of tooth decay and gum disease, and can contribute to oral and throat cancer.

This year’s campaign will give you free personal daily support to stop smoking for 28 days.

Let us help: ask your dentist or hygienist for smoking cessation advice at your next visit. You can also follow our Facebook page for helpful hints and tips to keep you motivated throughout ‘Stoptober’.

Serious Reasons to quit this ‘Stoptober’.

  • Cancer. Over 6700 people were diagnosed with mouth cancer in 2014. Smokers are three times more likely to develop mouth cancer, and 7 times more likely to develop throat cancer. Ex smokers reduce their risk of mouth cancer by over a third.
  • Gum Disease. Smoking can lead to gum disease. People who smoke are more likely to produce bacterial plaque, which can lead to gum disease. Nicotine also inhibits the flow of oxygen within the blood, so the infected gums don’t heal.
  • Tooth Loss. Gum disease (see above) is the number 1 cause of tooth loss in adults.
  • Tooth staining. Nicotine and tar in tobacco can turn teeth yellow in a short space of time. If you’ve decided to quit our Flash Pearl Clean can remove many of the surface stains associated with tobacco. For Stoptober, we are offering this treatment for just £35, £10 off our usual price- see page 2 for more details.

Remove unsightly stains from your teeth £10 off Flash Pearl cleaning this 'Stoptober'

Many of us have a number of ‘lifestyle’ stains on our teeth caused by smoking or drinking red wine, coffee and tea. These stains can significantly discolour teeth, and cause us to lose confidence in our smile.

Stoptober offer

To help you see the difference to your smile you can make by stopping smoking, we are offering all of our patients £10 off the usual Flash Pearl cleaning price for all new appointments booked with our hygienist or therapist in October. The Stoptober price is £35; usual price £45.

FLASH pearl is a gentle cleaning powder made specifically to remove tough stains from teeth. It is based around a spherical particulate design that rolls smoothly over the surface of the tooth, gently removing stains and plaque without damaging enamel or the support structures of the tooth.

For more details or to book a Flash Pearl appointment with our Hygienist Roy Anthony or Therapist Jodie Alderton please do contact our reception team on 01642 553408, or alternatively send an e mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. Please note: Flash Pearl Cleaning is not a whitening system. If you would like more information on our effective whitening systems, including ‘enlighten whitening’ please do contact the reception team.

Therapist Jodie Alderton re-joins the Practice

We are delighted to welcome Therapist Jodie Alderton back to the Practice. Jodieworked in the practice from 2010-2012 as a Dental Nurse.

Jodie then completed her Bsc (hons) in Dental Hygiene and Therapy from Teesside University in 2015, and we were pleased to be able to offer her a role within the Practice as a Dental Therapist.

Away from work Jodie loves travelling and having new experiences; she recently volunteered for a month in Tanzania and I am hoping to undertake more volunteering experiences in the future.

She also enjoys socialising and spending time with friends and family.

Muddy Marvellous!

We want to say a huge congratulation to some of the Practice Team, who survived a gruelling obstacle race through water, mud and even flames at the ‘Muddy Mayhem’ event at Hardwick Park on September 27th.

They showed their mettle as they worked as a team to cross bridges, climb into bins full of icy water and even crawl on their hands and knees through a bog. As you can see from our Facebook page, there were lots of laughs and a few superbly athletic stunts too.

Team… we salute you!
